Five different goal scorers propelled the Rangers to a 5-2 win over the Panthers. Henrik Lundqvist made 43 saves for his 30th win of the season and 404th of his career. He now has at least 30 wins in 11 of his 12 seasons and moves into sole possession of 10th in all time wins.
The fourth line contributed 4 points with Tanner Glass scoring a goal and an assist in his second game back up from the AHL. He skated well throughout the game, proving for one game at least, that he could be more than just a grinder and enforcer. This was showcased on the Rangers fourth goal as he fought to get to the front of the net and avoid the Panthers goalie to provide a nice screen.
Glass played over 11 minutes, up from 5:30 last game, and played the hockey that this Rangers team needs from him. Clean, fast, and for the most part, decent defense. The first Florida goal was against the 4th line when a bouncing puck eluded Glass and found Vanek wide open in the slot.
The end of the second and third period belonged to Hank. The desperate Panthers started pressing more and more to try and even up the score. Henrik stood tall to make 43 saves in total and several split saves, rightfully earning the first star of the game.
The Rangers defense allowed 83 shots the last two games vs teams looking in from outside the playoff bracket. This is not a sustainable rate of play especially come playoff time. Clendenning is not the best in his own zone but he does drive play and is consistently at the top for the Rangers in possession statistics. Not saying he is the answer, but he can’t be much worse than what we’ve seen the last two games.
- Brady skjei- picked up another primary assist and has been a top 5 rookie in the league this year
- Fourth line- contributed 4 points and forechecked hard all night
- PP- scoreless again but their zone entries and possession was solid
- Bleeding shots- allowed 45 shots on net
- Pirri- 2 more penalties and continues to miss the net on the PP
